This is the Monastery at Zhongdian, in Northern Yunnan, which the Chinese renamed Shangri-La a few years ago. It was in the old Tibetan Province of Kham until the 1950’s when the Chinese incorporated parts of Tibet into Chinese provinces. The monastery is still in use, and was founded by the fifth Dalai Lama.
